Stanley Tucci on Age Gap, Cancer Battle, and Embracing Life’s Joys

Stanley Tucci isn’t shy about talking about his family life. Recently, he shared a thoughtful insight into his marriage with Felicity Blunt. There’s a 21-year age gap between them. Stanley is 64 years old, and Felicity is 44. But it’s not simply being older that weighs on him.

“I feel a pang of sadness thinking I won’t see her grow old,” Tucci told The Times of London. “I won’t be able to care for her if she needs me later in life.” He explained that he wasn’t bothered by the age difference itself. “There’s a real beauty in couples growing old together. For us, unless a miracle happens, that path isn’t possible.”

Their love story began in a way only Hollywood could script. Stanley first met Felicity in 2006. It was at the premiere of ‘The Devil Wears Prada.’ He starred in the film alongside Felicity’s sister, Emily Blunt. Fate brought them back together four years later. This was at Emily’s wedding to fellow actor John Krasinski in 2010.

Stanley had known deep loss before. His first wife, Kate Tucci, passed away in 2009. She fought a tough battle with breast cancer. He found love again with Felicity, marrying her in 2012. Together, they welcomed their son Matteo in 2015 and daughter Emilia in 2018. Stanley also has three older children from his marriage to Kate.

Life threw another curveball Stanley’s way. While Felicity was pregnant with Emilia, he received difficult news. Doctors diagnosed him with throat cancer. “It was tough to go through that,” Stanley shared with The Times. “Especially after losing my wife and friends to illness. But I’m happier now than I was before.” He recalled his chemotherapy and radiation treatments. “The hardest part was how tough it was on Felicity. She was giving birth while I was getting treatment. And, of course, it was hard on the kids too.”

Now, Stanley has been in remission for several years. He feels a renewed sense of purpose. “I see things more clearly now,” he explained to the newspaper. “I have more self-respect. In 15 years, I’ll be 80. There’s so much I want to do before then.” He added that his family has a history of living long lives. “I hope to live a lot longer myself. It’s scary, of course. Especially with children, you want to be there for them. You feel your body changing. You can’t do things you once could.”

Since his recovery, Stanley has really focused on his health. He tries to exercise five or six times a week. “Honestly, I can’t go more than 24 hours without it,” he joked. He mentioned a recent Pilates class. “I’m in much better shape than before I got sick. Exercise makes everything better. It lets you enjoy other things, like eating good food and drinking wine.”

And speaking of good food, Stanley has explored Italy’s culinary scene. He’s done this through his travel shows, ‘Searching for Italy’ and ‘Tucci in Italy.’ “The amazing food I grew up with, the togetherness, the gatherings—I believe in following what you love,” he told the British newspaper. “Things you find interesting, things you’re passionate about. It’s about exploring those things. Then sharing them in new ways with others. Nobody in my family was a restaurateur or chef. But food was always the most important thing.”
