Stade Rennes loses to Monaco before hosting Villarreal

He Stade Rennes suffered its second defeat in a row this Saturday against Monaco at Roazhon Park (1-2).which brings them closer to the Ligue 1 relegation zone before they host Villarreal next Thursday, the final matchday of the Europa League.

Julien Stephan’s team suffered a serious setback. Rennes is in free fall as it was unable to exploit its superiority in the last quarter of an hour, when the Monegasque team was left with just ten due to being sent off for a double yellow booking by the Brazilian Vanderson who had given his team the lead exactly in the 51st minute when he beat Steve Mandanda after receiving a ball from Folarin Balogun.

Despite having one player less, Monaco won the game with five players remaining. Balogun appeared again and set up Youssouf Fofana’s second goal.

Only Stade Rennes could score from the penalty spot. Benjamin Bourigeaud scored from eleven meters in the last minute.

The win puts Monaco in second place, ahead of Nice and three points behind Paris Saint Germain. Stade Rennes, in twelfth place, is only three points away from relegation.
