SS Rajamouli, the acclaimed director behind “Varanasi,” is facing legal action following controversial remarks he made about Lord Hanuman. A formal complaint has been filed against him by the “Rashtriya Vanar Sena” organization.
The group alleges that Rajamouli’s statements have deeply hurt religious sentiments. The controversy ignited during a “Globetrotter” promotional event for his upcoming film on November 15 at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad.
Technical difficulties caused significant delays at the event. Rajamouli expressed his frustration over these issues during the presentation.
He reportedly stated, “This is an emotional moment for me. I don’t believe in God. But my father came and said Lord Hanuman will handle everything. Is this how he handles things? I’m getting angry thinking about this.”
Rajamouli further added, “When my father talked about Hanuman and asked me to depend on his blessings for success, I got very angry.”
These comments quickly sparked widespread criticism across social media platforms. The director has not yet issued any public statement regarding the case or the ongoing controversy.
His new film, “Varanasi,” is currently in production. The project is set to feature a star-studded cast including Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film is anticipated for release in 2027.
