Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan recently made headlines, not just for his first National Award win, but for a witty exchange with politician Shashi Tharoor. Khan’s clever reply on social media left fans everywhere scratching their heads, wondering what exactly he had written.
The beloved actor, often called King Khan, has enjoyed a successful career spanning 33 years. Yet, it was his role in the film ‘Jawan’ that finally earned him his first National Award for Best Actor. As soon as the news broke, famous personalities from all walks of life sent their warm wishes. Among them was the well-known politician, Shashi Tharoor.
Tharoor, famous for his extensive vocabulary, took to X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate Khan. He tweeted, saying, “A National Treasure wins a National Award! Congratulations @iamsrk!”

Khan, always quick with a response, didn’t miss a beat. He replied to Tharoor’s message on X, adding a touch of his signature humor. He playfully tweeted, “Thank u for the simple praise Mr Tharoor… would not have understood something more magniloquent and sesquipedalian… ha ha”.

The interesting part? Khan used two rather complex words himself: “magniloquent” and “sesquipedalian.” For those not familiar, these words essentially describe someone who uses very long or difficult words. It was a funny moment, as Khan joked about not understanding complex language, only to use it himself!
This playful jab instantly became the talk of social media. Fans were utterly baffled by Khan’s choice of words. One user commented, “What are these ‘magniloquent’ and ‘sesquipedalian’?” Another simply wrote, “What did he write? I can’t understand.” Many admitted they had to quickly search on Google to figure out what Khan meant. Despite the confusion, most users continued to send their heartfelt congratulations to the superstar for his well-deserved National Award.
