Sri Lankan heavy hitter Kusal Mendis was found to be Kovid-19 positive ahead of the T20 International series which starts in Australia on Friday. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) gave this information on Tuesday. On Monday, Mendis, 27, was found to be Covid-positive during a routine test. The SLC said in the statement: “Kusal Mendis, who went to Australia on a tour with the Sri Lankan national team, was found to be Covid-19 positive.” He said: “The result was confirmed in the RATPCR test which was done on the same day.” Kovid- In accordance with the rules related to 19, Mendis is currently kept in isolation.

The five-match T20 series between Sri Lanka and Australia will be played from February 11-20, with the first match at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Following the limited overs tour of Australia, Sri Lanka will travel to India for two Tests and three T20Is, starting on February 25.

We reported that earlier on January 31, prior to the team’s departure to Australia, fast pitcher Nuwanthushara also tested positive. thushara, who is included in the twenty-man squad, has not played any international matches so far. The team’s coach, Dilshan Fonseka, was also found to be Kovid positive. The SLC said that both would join the team on February 10 after completing their isolation.
