Sri Lankan Captain Chamari Atapattu Hits 7 Sixes in an Innings
Sri Lankan women’s team captain Chamari Atapattu has created a new record in the Asia Cup 2024 by hitting 7 sixes during her innings against Malaysia. This feat has never been achieved by any female player in the Asia Cup tournament before. Previously, the maximum number of sixes hit in an innings was 3, achieved by several players including India’s Shefali Verma, Richa Ghosh, and Smriti Mandhana, as well as Pakistan’s Alia Riaz.
Chamari Atapattu Becomes the First Player to Score a Century in Women’s T20 Asia Cup
Not only did Chamari Atapattu break the record for most sixes hit in an innings, but she also became the first player in the world to score a century in the Asia Cup played in T20 format. Her innings of 119 runs in 69 balls included 14 fours and 7 sixes, with a strike rate of 172.46. Her team, Sri Lanka, scored 184 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs against Malaysia.
