The board was unable to pay Moody’s fees

According to a leading cricket source, SLC “hadn’t paid Tom Moody’s fees for a long time” despite saving more than $40 million. “We also feel that we need a person who is more practical, who can spend more time in Sri Lanka,” the source added. The source also said that due to the ongoing economic slowdown in Sri Lanka, the board was unable to cover Tom Moody’s expenses of $1,850 per day and 100 days per year.

Another source said that Moody will leave the team at the end of this month or before the start of the T20 World Cup in Australia next month. Moody, the former head coach of Sri Lanka, was appointed director of Sri Lanka Cricket in February last year. So that the Sri Lankan team can be prepared for the T20 World Cup and the Over 50 World Cup to be held in India in 2023.

Cash crisis in Sri Lankan cricket

Tom Moody has yet to comment on this, Sri Lanka won the Asian Cup earlier this month under Moody’s management. As director of Sri Lanka Cricket, Moody had created a performance-based salary structure, which was opposed by the national team. According to board officials, Sri Lanka has been facing severe shortages of food, fuel and medicine since the end of last year, while Sri Lankan cricket remains short of money. Last week, Sri Lanka Cricket donated half a million dollars to a cancer hospital that was in dire need of life-saving medicine and medical equipment.
