Squid Game: Netflix removes a scene that contained a real phone number

Netflix made a big mistake in its flagship series. Indeed, the directors accidentally used a real phone number during a scene, and you can imagine what happened.

In Squid Game, participants all receive a business card. On one side, there are symbols similar to those of the PlayStation, and on the other, a phone number to call. The problem is that the number was real. Netflix would have removed a few digits from the number, but probably did not withdraw the vouchers.

Indeed, the production team made the mistake of removing the first three digits from the number instead of the middle or the last four. In South Korea, the first three digits correspond to the area code by city, the most common being 010 for mobile. However, if only the last eight digits are provided without an area code, the call may automatically connect if you are in the same region.

The owner of the phone number was harassed after the release of Squid Game

The number in question appeared on business cards during the first and second installments of the series. The owner of the phone number was unfortunately bombarded with messages and phone calls by viewers of the internationally successful original series. The show is so popular that children imitate the show’s unhealthy playground games.

Interviewed by our Korean colleagues from Money Today, she says that “ Since the release of Squid Game, I keep getting calls and texts, 24/7, to the point where it is difficult for me to continue with my daily life. This is a number that I have been using for over 10 years, which leaves me speechless. There are over 4000 numbers that I had to delete from my phone and they call me without knowing what is happening day and night due to their curiosity, my phone battery is draining and s ‘off. At first I didn’t know why, but my friend told me my number was out in Squid Game and that’s when I figured it out “.

The owner of the number told SBS, a local television station, that she could not change it because it is a business number that she has been using for 10 years now. She reportedly declined an offer of 1 million won (€ 725) in compensation. SBS has since reportedly offered him compensation of up to 5 million won.

Netflix would have reacted very quickly to this problem, and a spokesperson for the American giant told The Independent “ Together with the production company, we are working to resolve this issue, including editing scenes with phone numbers when necessary. “. The American giant should therefore finally edit the scene to end the harassment.
