Spotify to Launch Lossless Audio on iPhone with Music Pro Subscription Soon

Spotify fans are in for a treat. The streaming giant is gearing up to launch a lossless audio feature, elevating the music listening experience. Recently, both TechCrunch’s Chris Messina and The Verge’s Spicetify stumbled upon hidden code in Spotify’s desktop and web player versions referencing “Lossless.” This sparked excitement, and Aaron Peris confirmed that the latest iPhone beta version of the Spotify app also contains related code.

What is Lossless Audio?

Lossless audio files retain all the original sound data, allowing listeners to hear every detail as if they were in the studio. The discovered code indicates that Spotify’s lossless audio will offer high-quality 24-bit audio at 44.1 kHz. The text explicitly states: “Introducing the best audio quality on Spotify for songs with a maximum resolution of 24-bit/44.1 kHz.” Users will be able to stream or download lossless music directly within the iPhone app.

In February, Lucas Shaw from Bloomberg reported that Spotify is planning to launch a new subscription tier called “Music Pro.” This tier will offer higher quality sound, remix tools, and access to concert tickets. However, there’s a catch – Music Pro might cost an extra $5.99 per month on top of the regular Spotify Premium subscription.

Spotify’s Lossless Plans

Although Spotify hasn’t officially announced the launch date for lossless audio, reports suggest they aim to roll out Music Pro this year. Interestingly, Spotify first announced plans for a “Hi-Fi” package with lossless audio back in 2021, the same year Apple Music started offering lossless audio for most of its catalog, with resolutions up to 24-bit/192 kHz – and it’s free for subscribers.

While Spotify’s lossless offering may be delayed and potentially more expensive, it’s still welcome news for those seeking the best audio quality on the platform.
