Spotify has rolled out a new in-app feature enabling users to transfer existing music playlists from rival services, aiming to attract new subscribers by removing a significant barrier to switching platforms.
The new tool, integrated through a partnership with TuneMyMusic, allows for seamless migration of entire music libraries. This integration bypasses previous limitations of TuneMyMusic’s web-based free tier, which restricted transfers to 500 tracks.
The feature is being gradually deployed to the mobile app’s “Library” section. Users will find a new “Import your music” button, which redirects them to choose their source service.
Playlists can be copied from platforms such as Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, Pandora, SoundCloud, and Tidal. The original lists on other services are not deleted during the transfer.
This move places Spotify on par with competitors like Apple Music and YouTube Music Premium, which already offer similar integrated playlist transfer solutions.
Apple Music, for instance, allows users to transfer playlists via an integrated module across its iOS, iPadOS, and Android applications. YouTube Music Premium also supports importing playlists from other platforms, including Spotify.
The specific financial terms of the agreement between Spotify and TuneMyMusic were not disclosed. The update is expected to roll out to all users in the coming days through an app update or server-side change.
