Spotify test nieuwe playlist functie voor NFT

It seems that music giant Spotify is making a move into the world of Web3. In a small pilot for Android users in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia and New Zealand, the music giant is currently testing so-called token enabled playlists.

What are Spotify token-enabled playlists?

A token-enabled playlist is a playlist on Spotify that you can only listen to if you own a certain non-fungible token (NFT). Users within Spotify’s pilot area can currently connect their wallet to the platform to prove they have the necessary token.

Spotify’s new service is currently available to Fluf, Moonbirds, Kingship, and Overlord token holders. For the next three months, the playlists in question will only be available to members of these NFT collections. They can access this via a special link.

In this way, Spotify takes a first step towards the world of Web3 and immediately adds value to the aforementioned NFT projects. After all, they can build an even stronger sense of community with their token holders by listening to the same music together on Spotify.

At Overlord, they are in any case happy with the collaboration of Spotify, which only selected a limited number of projects for the pilot that will run for the next three months. In a comment below Overlord’s post, Spotify confirms its collaboration with the project.

No future plans yet

Incidentally, we should not immediately become too enthusiastic about this development. According to a Spotify spokesperson, the pilot is just a test to see if it adds value to the music platform. In that respect, no details are yet known about a further roll-out of this new feature on Spotify’s platform.

The streaming service, which has more than 489 million users worldwide, was already experimenting in 2022 with the integration of NFTs in the music platform. In May 2022, a small group of artists including Steve Aoki and The Wombats were given the opportunity to promote NFTs on their profiles.
