Spotify continues to beat Apple, Google and Amazon in the streaming battle

Market analysts at Midia Research have already revealed their latest report on the streaming music market. This presents us with data from the second quarter of 2021, and the delay is due to the length of the process to arrive at these numbers.

According to media research, Spotify at this point had something like 162.4 million paying subscribers to the streaming service. This gives it an estimated market share of 31%.

These numbers reveal a slight drop in Spotify compared to previous years. In the same period of 2020 it had a market share of 33%, while in 2019 it had 34%.

Apple Music a distant second with a 15% market share

Still, Apple Music remains a distant second. Apple’s streaming service has approximately 78.6 million subscribers, giving it a 15% market share.

Amazon Music has approximately 68.1 million subscribers, giving it a 13% market share. It shares this third position with Tencent Music, which reaches such numbers although it is exclusive to China.

Still in the field of truly relevant streaming services we find YouTube Music. The service has an estimated 41.9 million subscribers and an 8% market share.

In global figures, Media Research estimates that there are around 523.9 million subscribers covering all music streaming services. And although Spotify registers a fall, it will hardly lose the leadership of this market in the short term.
