Sporting Women’s Football Signs 18-Year-Old Polish Goalkeeper Julia Wozniak

A fresh face has stepped onto the pitch at Sporting. On Monday, the Lisbon club announced they have signed Julia Wozniak, a young goalkeeper from Poland, for their women’s football squad. This move signals new hopes for the Lions as they reshape their team.

Wozniak, just 18 years old, seems ready for the challenge. She shared her excitement through the club’s media. “Sporting is an amazing place to grow,” she said. “The training facilities are excellent. They will help me become the best player I can be.” Her journey with football began early; she found her passion for the sport at only five years old. Now, her goal is clear: “to develop as a player” in Portugal and “play for the main team.”

Every athlete has their heroes, and Wozniak is no different. She looks up to two legendary goalkeepers. One is Spain’s Iker Casillas, who spent 17 years at Real Madrid before five seasons guarding the goal for FC Porto. The other is Germany’s Manuel Neuer, a towering figure at Bayern Munich since 2011. “When I was younger, Neuer and Casillas were my idols,” Wozniak admitted. “I really loved how they played.” She has promised to “give her absolute best” for the team, which is guided by coach Micael Sequeira.

Sporting’s women’s football section is currently undergoing a big overhaul. The club is actively trying to reclaim the league title, a prize that has eluded them since the 2017/18 season. Bringing in talent like Wozniak shows their dedication to building a strong future. Her arrival could be a key piece in their plan to bring championship glory back to Alvalade.
