Sporting Women’s Fantastic 3-0 Rosengard Win Earns Sequeira’s Praise

There’s a certain glow that comes from a job well done. Sporting coach Micael Sequeira wore it openly after his team’s dominant 3-0 victory over Rosengard in Alcochete. Speaking to Sporting TV after the match, Sequeira was completely bowled over by his players’ performance. Yet, even in his praise, he injected a dose of reality. This tie, he reminded everyone, is only halfway done. The team must keep their pace and stay focused for the second leg in Sweden.

Sequeira spoke of a complete performance from his squad. “The players today were absolutely fantastic,” he stated, his voice full of pride. “They played a great game, managing to dominate at all times.” He noted the team’s defensive solidity. “We defended very well when we had to defend.” But it wasn’t just about stopping the opponent. “With the ball, we were more effective than we had been.” He concluded his initial thoughts with a broad thank you. “When it’s like this, all that’s left is to congratulate the whole group, structure, and staff. It was an excellent game.”

A United Front: Players and Fans

The question of player concentration drew an immediate, firm response from the coach. “Without a doubt,” he confirmed. “Globally it was a great game.” He didn’t forget the vital role of the supporters either. “The fans were also very important because they showed up,” Sequeira pointed out. “We felt their affection, their strength, and the players outdid themselves.” For him, this synergy creates something special. “When it’s like this, it’s globally fantastic.” He doubled down on his praise for the team. “But congratulations to the working group, the players were fantastic. It was in the image of what Sporting is, and this is the path we have to follow.”

The Rhythm of Success

Someone mentioned the idea of a “positive headache” – perhaps referring to the coach’s selection dilemmas after such a strong showing. Sequeira embraced it. “We’re going to play many successive games,” he explained. “But playing every 3 days is very good for the team.” He sees frequent matches as the ultimate training ground. “The best training is the game, and by playing every 3 days, the team will reach much higher levels.” This constant challenge is exactly what he desires. “This is the rhythm we want. Win, play well, and when it’s like this, we’re very satisfied.”

Still, the seasoned coach wasn’t about to let anyone get ahead of themselves. “We have to be aware that this is only halftime,” he cautioned. The conditions for the return leg weigh on his mind. “In Sweden, it’s a synthetic pitch, difficult, and we cannot relax so that error doesn’t appear.” For now, though, there’s room for celebration. “Now it’s time to enjoy the victory and congratulate the players.”
