Sporting’s president fired back at the violence that erupted after the hockey match between Sporting and FC Porto. Fans of the blue and whites were attacked, sparking outrage.
The club’s boss, Frederico Varandas, didn’t mince words: “Those who carried out this barbaric attack don’t represent our club’s values or the values of sports.” He made it clear that these individuals have no place in any sports venue.
Varandas pointed out that this isn’t just a problem for clubs to deal with. He emphasized that the government needs to step in and help. “This year was fantastic for sports, and our fans have been amazing – win or lose. But a small minority can’t be allowed to ruin it for hundreds of thousands of passionate fans who support their teams,” he said.
He stressed that this issue isn’t unique to Sporting. “We can’t do it alone. We need the government’s help to tackle this problem. We’re doing our part by condemning this behavior and working with authorities to keep these people out of our stadiums.” Varandas wants to protect the club’s reputation and ensure that real fans can enjoy the game without fear of violence.
