The new handball season kicks off this Saturday with a massive showdown. Sporting and FC Porto will battle for the Super Cup trophy. This exciting classic match starts at 4:15 PM at the Sines Multipurpose Pavilion. Fans are ready to see who starts the year on top.

Sporting comes into this game riding high. They won an amazing treble last season, taking home the Championship, Cup, and Super Cup. They are looking strong with a solid team structure. Their players are young but know each other well and have a lot of experience. This makes them the favorites going into the match.

FC Porto, on the other hand, is looking for a fresh start. They finished last season as vice-champions and lost in the Cup final. Their pride took a hit after losing their domestic dominance. The team has seen many changes. Influential players left, and new ones have joined. These new players are still getting used to coach Magnus Andersson’s tactics. This period of change can make things tricky.

Before the men’s final, another Super Cup will be decided. Benfica faces Madeira SAD in the women’s Super Cup. That game kicks off earlier in the day at 11:00 AM.

Sporting coach Ricardo Costa feels confident about his team’s chances. He believes they can live up to their favorite status. “This is where the serious competition begins,” Costa told the Federation’s (FAP) website. “We played two important preparation games in France. Those matches helped us understand FC Porto’s style, which remains consistent.” He noted that Magnus Andersson is still leading Porto. However, the team now features a different defensive setup and new players. Costa added that Sporting had a good preparation period with many challenges. “We see this Super Cup as the start of an important year. We need to forget our past successes. We cannot win simply by relying on what we have already achieved.” He acknowledged Sporting won the last two Super Cups. “To win a third, we must do much more. FC Porto will certainly be hungry to win again.” Costa also shared his thoughts on Porto’s new additions. “From what we’ve seen, FC Porto is a strong team. They signed a right-back, Linus Persson, a position where they faced difficulties before. He’s an international-level player. They also brought in strong, tall defensive players like Jesús Vergara and Timmy Petit.” He emphasized his team’s focus. “The most important thing for us is what we want and can do. We won’t be overly focused on FC Porto. They are a strong team, and they want to win more than ever. But we also need to rediscover that desire to win.”

Daymaro Salina, FC Porto’s pivot and captain, discussed the team’s new faces and the upcoming season. He stressed Porto’s strong ambition. “FC Porto enters every competition to win,” Salina stated. “So, that’s our goal for the Super Cup. Just like every season, we want to win all the titles in Portugal.” He admitted Sporting had more luck last season. “But this is a different situation, with new players. Both teams have strengthened their squads. I think it will be a very intense match.” Salina described the game as a true classic, filled with “grit and passion.” He also spoke about integrating the new players. “Our Portuguese players already understand these classic games. But the foreign players don’t have as much experience with them. We’ve shown them how these matches are played.” He assured that the new additions are ready. “They are ready to give a good performance.” Despite the distance to Sines, Salina hopes for strong fan support. “The game is a bit far, but we hope to have a pavilion full of Porto fans cheering us on. This club has supporters all over the world.”
