Sporting will face Swedish club Hammarby in the Europa Cup quarterfinals, setting up a clash with a team that last season eliminated rival Lisbon club Benfica from the Champions League and subsequently posted a provocative message.
The quarterfinals are scheduled for April 25/26 and May 2/3. Hammarby secured their spot by defeating Ajax 3-1 in the second leg of the round of 16 this past Thursday, mirroring their victory from the first leg.
Last season, Hammarby advanced to the Champions League group stage after eliminating Benfica. Following their victory in Portugal, the Swedish club published a taunt on social media.
