A Portuguese lower-league football coach is under investigation by his club and the national players’ union following an anonymous complaint of alleged psychological abuse, potentially sidelining him from an upcoming cup fixture.
Rui Sacramento, who coaches Marinhense, is the subject of an internal probe launched by the club. Marinhense confirmed it is investigating Sacramento’s conduct after being informed of the case.
The complaint was filed anonymously with the Players’ Union (Sindicato de Jogadores).
The investigation could jeopardize Sacramento’s presence on the sidelines for Marinhense’s Portuguese Cup match against top-tier club Sporting Lisbon. The fixture is scheduled for the 22nd at Sporting’s home stadium, Alvalade.
Sacramento, 40, was formerly a professional goalkeeper. His playing career included stints with clubs such as FC Porto, Arouca, and Gil Vicente.
He was part of the FC Porto squad that won the Intercontinental Cup in 2004.
