The Sporting team made history at the Nacional Open de Portugal. Their women’s 4×100 freestyle relay team broke a 15-year-old record. The team, made up of Maria Moura, Laura Barbeito, Carolina Viana, and Anna Fomina, finished in 3:51.11.
This beat the old record of 3:52.07, set by FC Porto 15 years ago. The Benfica team came in second with a time of 3:52.58. The Foca team finished third with a time of 4:01.15.
The same Sporting team also broke the national record in the 4×200 freestyle relay. They finished in 8:21.65.
Ana Rodrigues Makes a Splash
Ana Rodrigues from the Sp. Braga team had a big day. She won the 100 breaststroke event. She already won the 50 freestyle and 50 breaststroke events.
This makes her the second Portuguese swimmer with the most titles. She now has 153 titles, surpassing Paulo Frischknecht’s 151. Rui Borges still holds the top spot with 2007 titles. But Ana isn’t done yet – she’s still competing and closing in on Rui’s record.
Francisco Quintas, from the Sporting team, competed in the 100 breaststroke event and came in fifth. He’s retiring from sports after the championship but will swim one last time with his team on Sunday.
