Agustín Casado’s New Chapter
Spanish international center Agustín Casado is set to join Montpellier HB for the next four seasons, marking a new chapter in his career. The 28-year-old player will leave Veszprém after two seasons, during which he won a league and cup title in Hungary, as well as the Club World Cup.
Casado’s departure from Veszprém was made official by the club’s sports director, Laszlo Nagy, who stated that the decision was made in conjunction with the technical staff. The player’s contract was set to expire, and the club chose not to renew it.
Before joining Montpellier, Casado will aim to help Veszprém achieve their goal of winning the Champions League title. The Hungarian team has come close to winning the championship on several occasions but has yet to succeed.
A New Challenge Awaits
Casado’s move to Montpellier is motivated by the upcoming departure of Slovenian central defender Stas Skube. The French team is seeking to regain its place in the French competitions and will rely on Casado’s skills to achieve this goal.
Casado will join another Spanish player, Jaime Fernandez, at Montpellier. The team is looking to challenge the dominance of Paris Saint-Germain and HBC Nantes in French handball.
A Leader for Spain
Casado is considered one of the most sought-after centers in Europe and will play a key role in the Spanish national team’s quest for another medal at the 2025 World Cup. He has become a basic piece in coach Jordi Ribera’s schemes and has participated in the achievement of several titles, including the silver medal at the 2022 European Championship and the bronze medals at the 2023 World Cup and the Paris Olympic Games.
