Spanish Sports Council Reflects on 2024 Achievements
The president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, has taken stock of 2024, highlighting the collective effort and public policies that have contributed to Spanish sport experiencing its best moment since Barcelona’92.
Record Budget Allocation
The CSD has had the highest budget in its history, with 1.8 billion euros allocated between 2018-2024. This represents a 63% increase from the previous six-year term. The budget is expected to rise to above 2,000 million euros in the next six years.
Public Policies and Sports Excellence
Rodríguez Uribes emphasized the importance of public policies in consolidating sport as a right of all citizens and as a backbone of society. He highlighted the approval of the “National Strategy to promote sports against sedentary lifestyle and physical inactivity” and the allocation of 87 million euros to develop this strategy between 2025-2030.
Modernization of Sports Facilities
The CSD has committed to modernizing sports facilities throughout the territory, recognizing the role of sport in driving social cohesion, economic development, and promoting healthy habits. The Network of Technology Centers in Spain will benefit from 75 million euros within the Energy Plan 2.0, aiming to reduce primary energy demand by at least 30%.
Aid for Sports Entities and Infrastructure
The CSD has granted aid worth 27.5 million euros to entities that own sports facilities for modernization works, enabling them to host international sporting events. Additionally, 34.9 million euros has been allocated to public entities that own infrastructure to promote sustainable sports tourism.
Transforming Sport in 2025
Rodríguez Uribes emphasized the CSD’s commitment to transforming sport in 2025, making it a fundamental pillar of the country’s development. He highlighted the good performance of the Olympic and Paralympic delegations and the launch of Team España, a new preparation program promoted by the CSD.
Gratitude to Athletes
The president of the CSD expressed gratitude to athletes who have retired from their sports careers, including tennis players Rafael Nadal and Garbiñe Muguruza, soccer players Jesús Navas and Andrés Iniesta, and basketball players Sergio Rodríguez and Rudy Fernández.
Collective Effort and Individual Desire
Rodríguez Uribes concluded that Spanish sport is at its best thanks to a collective effort, but emphasized the importance of individual desire and the values that identify Spain as a country.
