The Spanish national handball team just revealed its squad this Monday. They’re gearing up for two big friendly matches against Sweden. These games are set for October 30 and November 1. Fans are excited to see a mix of fresh faces and familiar talent.
A few players from Portuguese clubs made the cut. Sporting Lisbon will send three athletes: Natan Suárez, Jan Gurri, and Victor Romero. This will be Suárez’s very first time joining the national team. Benfica also has a player called up, Javier Rodríguez.
However, the biggest news is the debut of Pablo Urdangarin. He’s a 24-year-old player from Granollers. Pablo carries a famous name and a powerful legacy. His mother is Infanta Cristina, and his father is the legendary Iñaki Urdangarin. Many consider Iñaki one of Spain’s greatest handball players ever. Pablo also happens to be the nephew of King Felipe VI.
Coach Jordi Ribera shared his thoughts on the new squad. He emphasized his commitment to finding new talent. Ribera stated, “The call-up of new players shows that the Spanish national team is open to everyone.” Besides Pablo Urdangarin and Natan Suárez, this fresh intake of players also includes Mario Nevado and Álvaro Martínez, all making their national team debuts.
