Basketball starts again this weekend at the Santiago Martín pavilion in San Cristóbal, Tenerife (same venue as last year), with the 22nd edition of the Endesa Super Cup and one week after the start of the national championship. Barcelona (champion of the Endesa League and the Copa del Rey), Real Madrid (runner-up in both tournaments), Valencia Basket and Tenerife will be the four participants in a tournament that will be played for the third time in the Canary Islands, but for the first time in Tenerife.
The first two matches will be on Saturday. The first will face Barça and Valencia and will be played at 19:00. The second will be between CB Canarias and Real Madrid, at 22:00. The final will be on Sunday, September 12, and will take place at 6:30 p.m.
Real Madrid is the latest winner, this being the only tournament they won last season. The white team lifted the trophy in 2020 after defeating Barça in a final in which they managed to impose on a Barça team that would dominate most of the duels that would come that course. In a somewhat tense atmosphere, Laso’s men won the seventh Super Cup in their history, tying with the Catalans in the historical record (they have not won since 2015). Baskonia, absent this year, is the third club in the ranking with four titles, all of them consecutively from 2005 to 2008. Tenerife, meanwhile, is playing its second Super Cup.
