Spain’s U-20 Women’s Team Falls Short of European Gold
VILNIUS, LITHUANIA – The Spanish Under 20 women’s basketball team claimed the silver medal at the European Championship, finishing second to France in the tournament. Despite their defeat, Spain has won the championship a record nine times in the last 12 years.
The match saw France dominate the inner game, particularly in the outside shot, with a partial of 14-5 (25-26) early in the game. However, Spain managed to take the lead and maintained a five-point advantage going into the break, with a score of 41-36.
After the break, the teams traded blows, but the lack of concentration from the Spanish players allowed France to regain the lead and keep the distance they had gained. The only bright spot for Spain was Awa Fam, who notched 20 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 assists in 35 minutes, with a PIR of 31.
U-20 Team Leaves Without a Prize
Despite the defeat, the Spanish U-20 team had a remarkable tournament, winning all six matches in the group stage and knockout rounds. They outscored their opponents by an average of 47 points per game.
