Spain will host 9 Ukrainian athletes for 50 days

The Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA) has turned to support and help Ukrainian athletes who have had to leave the country because of the war and this Tuesday, after receiving a request for help from the Ukrainian Athletics Federation, they began to welcome these athletes and their families.

This Tuesday, May 10, a group of 18 Ukrainians made up of 9 athletes, two coaches and seven family members arrived in Alfaz del Pi (Alicante). that they will continue with their training in La Nucía in order to compete in the World Championships in Athletics in Eugene (Oregon, United States) and that they will remain in Spain until June 30.

Among the Ukrainian athletes who will train in Spain are the high jumper Andrii Protsenko, the 400-meter athlete Anastasiia Bryzgina, the sprinter Sergii Smelyk and the long jumper Serhii Nykyforov.. In addition, these athletes and the other five Ukrainian athletes will be able to compete as guests in the Ibero-American Championship of La Nucía, although without the option of a medal.

The RFEA has also announced that, to improve their stay in Alicante, the popular Ibero-American races to be held on May 22 in Torrevieja, the Half Marathon and the 5K for Ibero-American Women will be held under the slogan ‘Ibero-America runs for Ukraine’ . The proceeds from the registrations for these races, in addition to the number 0, will go to help this group of Ukrainian athletes.
