Spain will have 37 million users in e-commerce in 2025

The COVID-19 pandemic prompted the purchase of products online. Many businesses that did not consider entering the digital market began to offer an opportunity to electronic commerce, a phenomenon that has been increasing since then. In this context, according to latest Statista study, the number of online shoppers will grow by 25% in Spain in 2025, reaching 37 million users.

This study reveals the scope of online shopping, a phenomenon that has broken down barriers and has reached all kinds of markets and audiences. “It is important to take into account the applicable legal framework in this type of operation. The Law 34/2002 of July 11 on Services of the Information Society and Electronic Commerce (LSSI) is oldbut it lays the foundations so that companies and professionals are clear about the requirements they must meet to offer their services in accordance with the law of the digital market”, ensures Antonio Pastor, expert lawyer in e-commerce and partner of Barcelona Legal Circle.

Obligations in contracting online services

In order for a company to apply e-commerce, it must advertise its name or company name, tax identification number, address, email and any data that allows effective and direct communication. In addition, the registration data of the Mercantile Registry must be included.

“Keeping the customer informed is paramount. The user must have clear and exact information about the entire purchase processnot only of the company, but also of the final price of the product or service, as well as the contracting conditions of the product”, Pastor remarks.

Once the services have been contracted, the provider must send an electronic receipt within 24 hours of acceptance. In addition, every e-commerce platform must have a Cookies policy that allows the user to choose which cookies are used.

In online contracting, it is important that the provider has the contract in digital format so that the user can consult it and be informed of any changes.

Advantages of e-commerce

Electronic commerce allows us to be in constant contact with users, as well as offering great security in delivery and a wide range of payment methods.

“It is not difficult to introduce e-commerce in any sector, an innovation that can bring many benefits to all types of businesses. This does not mean that establishments will disappear, but it is necessary to take a step forward and value the positive aspects of digital commerce.”, concludes the lawyer.
