Spain, silver medal in the Junior World Cup

The Spanish junior épée fencing team has won the silver medal at the ‘World Cup of Switzerland’ held in the Swiss city of Winterthur.

With 160 participants in the individual event and 17 countries in the team competition, it is one of the benchmark events on the world circuit. The national team was made up of Javier de los Mozos (Burgos Fencing Hall), Diego López Corazón (Burgos Fencing Hall), Daniel Jeun (Recreational Fencing Club Alcobendas-Madrid) and Daniel García Miguel (Lázaro Cárdenas Fencing Club of Villalba-Madrid), and directed by the coach of the High Performance Training Program, Carlos Zayas.

In the team competition, Spain faced Canada winning 45/29, then France winning 36/35 in a highly disputed round, in the semifinals they faced the United States winning 45/41, and in the final they lost against the hosts, Switzerland by 45/ 39.

In the words of the national technical director, Ángel Fernández: “this result reinforces the entire program of young talents ‘PFCAR’ and gives us an extra boost to face the challenges of this year, especially the next European Championship in the category“.
