SailGP returns and with it a new opportunity for the Spanish team to vindicate itself. After the blows obtained by the black flag in Plymouth (Great Britain) and a broken centerboard in Aarhus (Denmark), Spain SailGP faces this weekend’s appointment in Saint-Tropez (France) with the need to obtain a good result. This is the fifth event of the current SailGP season and Spain is sixth in the general classification, nine points behind Australia, the leader.
This Saturday the Grand Prix of Saint-Tropez will begin and the enthusiasm and enthusiasm in the Spanish team are maximum. The Côte d’Azur hopes to see the F50 Victoria fly plus, the Spanish bloc will have five Olympians in Tokyo. Remain Jordi Xammar (which will continue with your F50 training), Florian Trittel (wing trimer), Diego Botin (flight controller) and Joan Cardona (grinder), and the last one to join was Joel Rodríguez. He does it as a substitute crew member, planned to manage breaks and possible injuries, although he is not a rookie because He already participated as a flight controller in the first season of SailGP, when the Spanish block debuted in Sydney (Australia). Pilot Phil Robertson and Mateu Barber (grinder) complete the call. “Now is the time to try to get some points,” commented Robertson and Trittel was optimistic for the appointment this weekend because “the team is continually improving and learning from mistakes to make every event a success”.
Signing a good result in Saint-Tropez and ending with good feelings will be crucial for the Spain SailGP because in just under a month they will face a test that is marked in red: the Spain Sail Grand Prix Andalucía-Cádiz. It will be held in Cadiz waters on October 9 and 10 and the expectation is maximum. So much so, that half of the tickets have already been sold. “The objective of this week is to gain momentum to reach Spain with the greatest strength and condition possible,” concluded Robertson.
