Spain project against human trafficking

The Spanish government presented Tuesday a bill against human trafficking that seeks to provide greater protection to economically vulnerable migrants who fall into the clutches of international criminal gangs.

The new law would help victims of different types of human trafficking, from sexual exploitation and forced labor to the illegal sale of organs, forced marriages and other criminal activities, Justice Minister Pilar Llop said.

When a court confirms a person’s status as a potential victim, they will be given free one-on-one legal help along with the ability to apply for financial aid and accommodation, Llop said. The National Police will create a new office dedicated to victims of trafficking.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, in 2021 the Spanish police released more than 1,000 victims of criminal gangs.
