Spain’s national football team is one game away from equaling Italy’s world record for the longest unbeaten streak in official international matches, following a dominant victory over Georgia.
The Spanish squad secured a decisive 4-0 win against Georgia on Tuesday. This victory extended their impressive run and set a new national record for consecutive games without defeat.
To match the world record, Spain must avoid a loss in their upcoming match against Turkey next Tuesday. The current world record for an unbeaten international streak is held by Italy, who achieved it under former coach Roberto Mancini.
The recent win surpassed Spain’s previous national record of 29 games without defeat. That earlier streak was established between 2010 and 2013 under the management of Vicente Del Bosque.
The current run had already reached 29 games in October. This milestone was achieved through victories against both Georgia and Bulgaria.
Spain’s last defeat in an official match occurred in March 2023. They lost 2-0 to Scotland.
While Spain drew 2-2 against Portugal in the UEFA Nations League final, they ultimately lost the trophy in a penalty shootout. Matches decided by penalties are typically not counted as losses in unbeaten streak statistics.
