Early European nights often bring surprises. This week, we saw exactly that as Levski Sofia battled its way into the next round. They are now set to become Sp. Braga’s first official opponent for the 2025/26 season in the Europa League. It was quite a fight for the Bulgarian side to get here.

Levski Sofia faced Hapoel Beer-Sheva in a match that went down to the wire. The first game in Bulgaria ended with no goals. The second leg was just as tight, with a 0-0 score after 90 minutes. Both teams finally found the net during extra time, showing real grit. The winner was decided by a penalty shootout. Levski Sofia held their nerve, winning the tie 3-1 from the spot.

This tough qualification means Sp. Braga will start their European journey against a team already tested by fire. The first leg of the Europa League second qualifying round kicks off next Thursday. Sp. Braga will travel to Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, for that opening match. A week later, the action shifts back home. The Bulgarian side will visit Estádio Municipal de Braga for the decisive second leg.
