South American Cup: Lanús won and went to the round of 16

Lanus defeated Metropolitanos de Venezuela 1-0 at home and qualified for the round of 16 of the South American Cup. Diego Braghieri with a header 6 minutes into the second half scored the only goal for the maroon team who took advantage of the 0-0 draw between Wanderers from Montevideo (8 points) and Barcelona from Ecuador (9) to secure the leadership of group A with 11 points.

Against a Venezuelan team (3 points) that only wanted to defend themselves and many times limited themselves to rejecting the ball inside their small area, Lanús was the exclusive protagonist of the match. He moved the ball freely all over the field and had situations to have won by a larger difference. But he found very good saves from goalkeeper Tito Rojas and a certain lack of clarity on his part when defining.

The tandem that Aguirre and Ángel González put together on the right was unstoppable for the dense defense of Metropolitanos who played almost the entire second half with ten men due to the expulsion of right back Bolívar at 14 minutes of the second stage and he did not even come out of his confinement with the score against him. It was a relatively quiet night for Lanús, who took a long time to get ahead. But when he did, he knew that the match and qualification for the round of 16 were guaranteed.
