Sophie Grégoire Trudeau Breaks Silence on Justin-Katy Perry Romance

Sophie Grégoire Trudeau has publicly addressed the high-profile romance between her estranged husband, Justin Trudeau, and pop superstar Katy Perry. The 50-year-old opened up about dealing with the intense public scrutiny surrounding the situation.

“We are human beings and things affect us,” Sophie told podcast host Arlene Dickinson on the November 12 episode of “Arlene is Alone.” The interview touched on “the publicity of what Justin is doing.”

Sophie emphasized personal agency in managing public perception. She stated, “How you react to things is your choice. So I choose to try and listen to the music instead of the noise.”

The motivational speaker is focusing on personal growth following her August 2023 separation from Justin, 53, after 18 years of marriage. “I am very aware that a lot of public things can be triggering,” she explained. “The woman I become through this is my choice.”

Sophie and Justin share three children: Xavier, 18, Ella-Grace, 16, and Hadrien, 11. She affirmed their commitment to a strong co-parenting relationship.

“I am definitely not a single mother,” Sophie insisted. “I have a co-parenting relationship with a father who has a deep love and is always available for his children.”

She added that they maintain separate lives but a unified family life. “It takes a common, conscious decision of: ‘Our family is our greatest creation, and we are going to nurture it together, no matter if we are on different life paths.’” Sophie acknowledged that this approach is not always easy but described it as “very mature.”

Justin announced their separation via Instagram in August 2023. He shared that they had made the decision “after many difficult conversations.”

His post affirmed their continued status as a “united family with a deep love and respect for each other.” He requested privacy for their children during this time.

Perry, 41, ended her engagement to actor Orlando Bloom in July after nine years. The pair share a 5-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove.

Representatives for Perry and Bloom confirmed their focus on co-parenting. Their joint statement noted they would continue to be seen as a family, prioritizing their daughter’s upbringing “with love, stability, and mutual respect.”

The “Roar” singer and Justin were first linked romantically in July after being spotted together in Montreal. Their public displays of affection continued into early October on a yacht off the coast of Santa Barbara, California.

They later celebrated Perry’s birthday together in Paris that same month. Perry seemingly confirmed the romance during an October 30 concert in Prague, telling the audience she was “dating someone else.”

A source revealed last month that Katy is “very excited” and happy about the relationship. The singer is reportedly trying to keep the new romance private.

The source added that while friends believe they are a good match, Justin has not yet met many of Perry’s close circle.
