In the case in which American Indian actress Jiah Khan was found dead in her home in 2013, alleged actor Sooraj Pancholi has been acquitted. The verdict was announced on Friday.

Jiah was found hanged at her home on June 3, 2013. A week later, police arrested Sooraj after Jiah’s mother, Rabia Khan, found a letter in her room. This six-page letter, allegedly written by Khan, later became the focus of the allegations against Pancholi.

He was held for almost a month until he was released on bail by the Bombay High Court on 3 July.

Pancholi alleged that the investigation and the charges were false and that prosecution witnesses testified against him at the request of the complainant and mother Rabia, the police and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The actor was in court along with his mother Zarina Wahab. Later, Jiah Khan’s mother was also present at the verdict.

Pancholi can breathe a sigh of relief on this matter; due to lack of evidence, he has been acquitted by the special court of the CBI.

Although Sooraj is acquitted, Jiah Khan’s mother is not happy with the verdict and plans to challenge it in the higher courts. She insists that this is a murder case and not a suicide.
