Sony Unveils Xperia 1 VII with Snapdragon 8 Elite and Enhanced Camera System

Sony’s latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 VII, is a camera powerhouse with a familiar design similar to its predecessor, the Xperia 1 VI. It boasts a 6.5-inch display, a 5,000mAh battery, and a triple-camera setup. The device is available in three colors: Slate Black, Moss Green, and Orchid Purple.

Camera Capabilities

The Xperia 1 VII’s camera system is its standout feature. It retains the same 48-megapixel primary sensor and 12-megapixel zoom lens as the previous model. The primary sensor features a 1/1.35-inch Exmor T sensor, a 24mm focal length, and an f/1.9 aperture, with OIS and PDAF for sharp images. The zoom lens offers a 85-170mm focal length and an f/2.3-3.5 aperture, with the ability to focus on objects as close as 4cm at 120mm.

The ultrawide camera has been upgraded with a larger 1/1.56-inch Exmor RS sensor, a 16mm focal length, and a wider f/2.0 aperture. This allows for better low-light performance and more detailed shots.

The camera is powered by Sony’s Alpha AI technology. It offers features like real-time eye AF for humans and animals, automatic object detection, white balance management, exposure control, and depth analysis. The device also supports Ultra HDR recording and features a redesigned two-stage shutter button.

The front camera has a 12-megapixel sensor with an f/2.0 aperture.

Audio and Design

The Xperia 1 VII includes a 3.5mm headphone jack with a lead and gold-plated design for high-quality audio transmission. An Audio Integrated Circuit (AIC) enhances sound quality. The device also features stereo speakers, tuned by Sony Music Entertainment, offering 10% more bass and midrange depth.

The phone’s display is a 6.5-inch OLED panel, sourced from Sony’s Bravia TV division. It has a 1080 x 2340 pixel resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and 20% higher brightness than the previous model. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and the back is covered with Victus glass. The device has an IP68 rating, meaning it can withstand being submerged in water up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.

Performance and Battery Life

The Xperia 1 VII is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which offers a 40% performance boost over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, expandable up to 2TB via microSD card. The device runs on Android 15 and is promised four years of software updates and six years of security patches.

The phone supports Wi-Fi 7 and has twice the Bluetooth transfer speed of its predecessor.

The battery capacity remains at 5,000mAh, with 30W charging support. Sony claims the device can last up to two days on a single charge and up to 36 hours of continuous video playback. Features like Xperia Adaptive Charging and Battery Care help maintain battery health.

Availability

The Xperia 1 VII will be available in Europe and the UK. A 512GB variant will be available in Asian markets, with pricing to be announced later.
