Sony today provided new details on its next-generation virtual reality headset for the PS5.
The new helmet will be named PlayStation VR2 which makes it clear that it will be the successor to the original PlayStation VR for PS4.
The new Virtual Reality controls for the hands will be called PS VR2 direction And I’ll have tactile feedback and adaptive triggers.
Sony announced the new virtual reality headset in early 2021, but details were sparse at the time. Today, the company has provided much more information.
The new features of the helmet 4K HDR monitors, a 110 degree field of view and ‘fove rendered’. Thanks to the OLED panel, gamers will enjoy an image resolution of 2000 x 2040 per eye and a frame rate of 90/120 Hz.
As for tracking, it has an inside-out tracking system that tracks you and your controls via built-in helmet cameras.
Also includes eye tracking, helmet feedback and 3D audio.
Helmet feedback is a new sensory feature that amplifies the sensations your in-game actions provoke.
It’s created thanks to a unique engine integrated with vibrations that add a smart touch element to fully immerse you in the gaming experience.
For example, you’ll feel a character’s racing pulse during moments of tension, the speed of objects passing close to your head, or the thrust of a vehicle when you step on the ground.
The helmet will have a simple configuration process thanks to a single cable connected directly to the PS5 for an immediate immersion in the VR experience.
Sony also announced the development of the game Horizon Call of the Mountain, Guerrilla and Firesprite. This game is being developed specifically for PS VR2 and will open the door for gamers to fully immerse themselves in the world of Horizon.
