Sony Corrects: The Xperia 1 III will receive two Android updates

As expected, this announcement was not very well received by fans of the brand, especially considering that we are talking about a smartphone for $1,300.

Now Sony has corrected it, communicating with GSMArena that the phone should receive “The latest Android updates for two years after its release.”

It is not correct that Xperia 1 III will have only one time Android OS update. We aim to support Xperia 1 III with the latest Android updates for two years after its launch and we expect to have Android OS updates more than once during that period.

The promise of just two big Android updates is nothing to write home about, especially when Samsung has offered three years of updates for many of its phones and has recently started to promise four years of security updates on some models.

For its part, Google has offered three years of Android updates and security patches for all of its Pixel phones, and recent leaks indicate that the Pixel 6 could extend the term to five years.
