Sony Announces End of PlayStation Stars Rewards Program After 3 Years

Sony is pulling the plug on its PlayStation Stars program, but don’t count it out just yet. The company says it’s going back to the drawing board to reassess what works best for players.

When PlayStation Stars launched in July 2022, it let players earn points to redeem for cash in their PSN Wallet or spend on other products. Now, Sony is ending the program, citing a need to evaluate which activities players respond to best.

New members can’t sign up, and current members who cancel can’t rejoin. Any accumulated points will disappear. Existing members can keep earning points until July 23, but the program will officially shut down on November 2, 2026 – about a year and a half from now.

Sony says it’s learned a lot from player feedback and will continue to develop and adapt to industry trends. The company is going back to the drawing board to try again, likely with a new approach.

For now, it’s unclear what a new program would look like, but it’s likely PlayStation Stars will return in some form. It just might not be what we see today.
