Solar park will allow Cervecería to produce products with renewable energy

Akuo, Cervecería Nacional Dominicana and Altio confirmed that for the first quarter of 2023, the commissioning of the Solar Park located in Nagua is expectedMaría Trinidad Sánchez province, generating 550 direct jobs and more than 2,000 indirect ones.

The progress of the work reflects the commitment to promote the well-being and progress of the Dominican Republic through sustainable and responsible solutions with the environment, as confirmed by Salvatore Longo, representative of Akuo, who stated that the construction process is progressing favorably and in the coming months work will be done to complete the assembly of the modulesthe substation and the transmission lines.

Through the agreement between Dominican National Brewery and Akuosigned in March of this year, the brewery promised to buy the energy that the solar park will produce, thus guaranteeing the viability of the project, and becoming the first brewery in the Caribbean that will use renewable energy sources to make all its products in the Dominican Republic.

The park will have a capacity of 53 MW, thus reducing CO2 equivalent emissions by more than 50,000 tons per year.

Fabián Suárez, president of the brewery, expressed his satisfaction with the development of the project and commented: “At Cervecería we dare to dream big, for this reason we are advancing in our goal that by 2025 all the energy used in our operations comes from sources renewable. This will be an important contribution to the country towards the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, a goal in which the State, private companies and citizens must work hand in hand”.

Suarez also reported that all the Cervecería distribution centers will also work with the energy coming from the Matrisol solar park around the country, as well as the administrative building. Undoubtedly, an important achievement resulting from the synergy with other public and private entities, such as Altio, Banco Popular and the Ministry of Energy and Mines.

This is the third project developed by the company Akuo, an independent French producer of renewable energy in the Dominican Republic, and the first carried out from the moment of its conceptualization with a Dominican private sector company. Previously, the company built the Pecasa wind power plant and the GEM solar power plant, which have been operating since 2019 and 2020, respectively.

With initiatives like this Brewery, it continues its commitment to innovation and the implementation of nature-friendly strategies, which will allow a future with more reasons to offer and the sustainable progress of the country.
