Softball celebrates women’s team won gold in Bolivarian Games

The Dominican Softball Federation (Fedosa) gave a treat to the senior women’s team, which won the gold medal at the XIX Bolivarian Games "Valledupar 2022". She offered a breakfast and had words of motivation for the group.

In the tricolor team that won the gold medal last Thursday by defeating the favorite Colombia in the final with a slate of 12 runs by 3, it was done by Fabio de León, manager of the National Teams Project. They received backpacks and other minor prizes during the farewell breakfast that took place in the dining room of the organization chaired by engineer Garibaldy Bautista.

“You are heroines. We are proud of the gallantry shown in the Bolivarian Games, from where they have returned with the gold medal hanging around their necks despite the fact that they did not give us a chance beyond bronze”, emphasized De León.

“Regardless of the award that the Dominican Olympic Committee has given them, we are giving them these gifts on the instructions of the president of our federation, Garibaldy Bautista,” he told the players, the vast majority from the interior of the country.

He stressed that this is the best performance of Dominican softball since the gold medal he won at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz, Mexico, in 2014. He also had words of motivation for the coaching staff led by Ramón López, “who has done a inappropriate work on the renovation project, with a view to upcoming events and the cycle that begins after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games”.

“This gold plate is very important for the upcoming international commitments on the agenda, such as the qualifying tournament for the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games and the 2025 Pan American Games,” said De León. That will take place in November of this year in Guatemala, where eight teams will compete for four places.

“We are committed to playing a dignified role in our upcoming events, the Bolivarian Games are an example that we are on the right track in the generational change, since the team was made up of several players who are under-23”.

López also spoke at the event, congratulating each of the girls for their feat, “especially catcher Clary Saldaña and debutant pitcher Cauri Rincón, who had memorable performances at key moments in the tournament.”

De Saldaña stressed that in addition to the hot bat he had throughout the tournament, he was fundamental with his good defense and as a motivating axis for the team.

“Clary is one of the best receivers on the continent. She has great experience and her hitting was key”, she underlined the qualified coach and affirmed that she “knows how to lead the pitchers, she is a top motivator, she keeps the team alive on the field. She is an athlete of great importance in the selection”, she pointed out.

Regarding Cauri’s work, he described it as extraordinary and praised the effort he put in prior to the tournament to arrive in better physical condition at the event.

“Undoubtedly she was the fundamental stone for us to have achieved the gold medal,” he said of Cauri, a pitcher who is 5-7 tall and weighs 215 pounds.
