SNCF strike: despite “some disruptions” in transport, Clément Beaune assures that “most of the service will be provided” for the Christmas holidays

While the Christmas holidays begin Friday evening and many French men and women have planned to take the train, “the main part of the service will be provided”, launches Clément Beaune, Minister Delegate in charge of Transport, Thursday, December 15 on France Inter. SNCF announced on Wednesday that traffic would be “slightly disturbed” this weekend due to a strike by switchmen called by Sud-Rail. The minister says the “some disturbances” will only concern the Atlantic axis.

No cancellations at Air France at Christmas

“Out of 700 trains that will run tomorrow on the main TGV lines, there are around twenty cancellations or postponements, mainly on the Paris-Bordeaux line”specifies Clément Beaune. “Disturbances exist for those who experience them, he continues, I regret it, we will try to minimize them but overall we will have trains for the most part families and French people this weekend”

The Delegate Minister in charge of Transport wants to be “reassuring” with regard to air traffic, despite the strike notice filed by the UNAC and SNGAF unions of Air France cabin crew for the period from December 22 to January 2. “Air France is getting organized and Air France will be able to provide its passengers’ flights for Christmas, Air France does not foresee any cancellations for Christmas or difficulties in routing its passengers”at this stage, believes Clément Beaune.
