Smith passed fitness test before match against Sri Lanka, good news for Australia

Former Australia captain Steve Smith passed the fitness test for the first test against Sri Lanka from Wednesday. Smith, like the rest of his teammates, is concerned with injury and also missed the first three ODIs of the tour. He is included in the long list of Australian players battling injuries.

Mitchell Starc will still have to go through a crucial net session to ensure his availability, while Travis Head is also suffering from an injury. Australia have included veteran Glenn Maxwell as an additional option ahead of the opening test. On Sunday, the away team received some good news as Smith, who last scored a century in Sri Lanka in 2016, was approved to play Tests.

The Australian Associated Press (AAP) quoted Smith as saying: “If we were still playing one-day cricket it would have been fine by the time we got to test cricket.” He further said: “The cricket test is a little bit easier, because I play in the slips, I won’t be able to run around the field as much and I’ll try to do better.”
