Smartphones now account for 64% of all website traffic worldwide, according to Statcounter. This isn’t surprising, given how easy it is for people to access the internet using their phones.
The shift from desktops and laptops to smartphones has been a steady trend since mid-2023. In the first quarter of 2025, smartphone traffic surged, reaching an all-time high. This 64% figure surpasses the previous records of 60% in the third quarter of 2022 and 62.7% in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Smartphone traffic has been growing for eight consecutive quarters, the longest stretch since 2016.
Regional Breakdown
Asia leads the way in smartphone website traffic, with 71.3% of global smartphone traffic. The Americas and Europe follow, with around 50% each.
This surge in global smartphone traffic can be attributed to the popularity of smartphones in Asia.
Operating System Market Share
When it comes to operating systems, Android dominates the market, with 72.72% of smartphone website traffic. iOS follows, with 26.92%.
