The world of photography just got a significant boost, thanks to SmallRig’s latest innovation. This renowned accessory brand has unveiled a game-changing cooling fan designed specifically for the Canon EOS R5 II and EOS R5 cameras. The primary goal of this clever device? To prolong the recording time of your camera, allowing you to capture more of life’s precious moments without interruptions. As seen in the video
It’s no secret that the EOS R5 has faced some heat-related challenges when capturing 8K video, a hurdle that the EOS R5 II has somewhat improved upon. However, SmallRig’s cooling fan takes this to the next level, further extending the camera’s video recording capabilities. For instance, at 8K 30p and 40°C, the fan enables a 30% increase in recording time. Meanwhile, at 4K 60p and 25°C, it helps prevent overheating altogether. The fan operates in two modes: Cool, which runs at 4500 RPM for quiet operation, and Ice-Cold, which kicks in at 7000 RPM for more intense cooling.
As shown in the image

, the installation process is remarkably straightforward, requiring no additional tools or accessories. Simply swing out the camera’s LCD screen, attach the fan, and you’re good to go. Although the fan doesn’t have a built-in battery, it can be powered via a 5V USB connection, and it’s also compatible with SmallRig’s V-mount battery ecosystem.
SmallRig’s cooling fan is available for $60.
