Tarik Skubal struck out nine en route to his first win in more than a year, leading the Detroit Tigers to a 5-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Monday, who suffered their sixth straight loss.
Skubal (1-1) held off the Giants by going five innings. He allowed two hits in a game that was rescheduled on April 16 due to bad weather. His last win dated back to last season against Oakland on July 21. He underwent surgery on his flexor tendon in August.
Zack Short hit a two-run homer and Kerry Carpenter drove in two more for Detroit. Riley Greene had three hits and scored twice.
Giants starter Ross Strippling (0-4) allowed three runs and 10 hits in six-plus innings. Wilmer Flores hit a solo shot for the Giants, who have scored just one run in each of their last three games.
For the Tigers, Cuban Andy Ibáñez 4-1, one scored. Venezuelan Miguel Cabrera 4-1.
