Sixers and Mavericks will look to make up ground in the NBA playoffs

Sixers y Mavericks buscarán recuperar terreno en los playoffs de la NBA

Philadelphia and Dallas head home trying to stay alive in the conference semifinal series against the top seeds. The 76ers don’t know if Joel Embiid will play again against Miami and the Mavericks are waiting for someone to help Luca Doncic against Phoenix.

Coach Doc Rivers didn’t sound optimistic about Embiid’s availability for Game 3, scheduled for Friday in Philadelphia after the Sixers trailed the Heat 2-0 without the MVP finalist, who suffered an orbital fracture.

Dallas coach Jason Kidd repeated his comment after the second loss to the Suns — the 11th straight for the Dallas Mavericks, including the regular season, against the team with the best record in the NBA.

Game 3 of the Western Conference series is this Friday in Dallas.

“He had a great game, but nobody else showed up,” Kidd lamented, referring to Doncic, after the 129-109 loss in the second game, sounding the same as after the stumble the night before.

James Harden and Tyrese Maxey have obviously missed Embiid. The Philadelphia point guards couldn’t find a way to divide up the task in the series.

MIAMI IN PHILADELPHIA

Miami wins 2-0.

— What to know: Miami point guard Victor Oladipo made his first career appearance in the conference semifinals with 19 points in Game 2. It was just his 12th game of the season and he has played four in a row for the first time since he joined the Heat.

—In the crosshairs: The Philadelphia triples. The 76ers were the third best team in the line of three in the first round, making 40.8% of their shots. They are the worst team in the conference semifinal round thus far, shooting just 21.9% through the first two games of the series.

PHOENIX AT DALLAS

Phoenix wins 2-0.

— What to know: The Suns have made at least 50% of their shots from the field in all eight postseason games, with Game 2 against Dallas being the most they made at 64.5%.

—In the spotlight: Dallas point guard Spencer Dinwiddie had some of his best games when Doncic was out in the regular season. His production has been shaky in the postseason, but there were signs of life in Game 2 as he scored 10 of his 11 points to help Dallas lead 60-58 at halftime. In the fourth quarter he attempted just one shot and missed it.
