The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office reported Wednesday that six of those killed in the tragedy in which 53 migrants died traveling in a truck in San Antonio, Texas (USA) have yet to be identified.
More than a week after the largest immigration tragedy in recent US history, the Coroner’s Office said it has been able to fully identify 47 of the victims.
The ages of the deceased immigrants range from 13 to 55 years, the institution said in a statement.
Those identified include 22 people from Mexico, 19 from Guatemala and 6 from Honduras.
The Coroner’s Office also released the names of 22 victims, whose families have been notified of their deaths.
The statement said it is still working to confirm the possible identities of the remaining six victims, who died after being abandoned in a truck found on the afternoon of June 27 in sweltering heat in San Antonio.
Inside the trailer of the vehicle, people were crowded, without water, without air conditioning and without ventilation. At the scene, 46 immigrants were found dead, and the other 7 people died after being taken to hospital.
The truck driver, identified as Homero Zamorano, 45, was indicted last week on multiple counts of foreign human trafficking resulting in death.
Zamorano, a native of Brownsville (Texas), was arrested by the San Antonio Police the same day of the tragedy when he tried to escape through the brush that surrounded the scene of the tragedy.
Three other people have been arrested in connection with the case, according to the US Department of Justice.
