Sirí gives HR in Rays win, McClanahan, 1st wins 8 this year

Shane McClanahan became the first pitcher with eight wins this season, and the Tampa Bay Rays overcame a 19-run loss last night with a 7-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night.

McClanahan (8-0) had one run and four hits over seven innings, striking out seven. Tampa Bay is 10-1 when the lefty takes the mound.

Now, McClanahan has joined Matt Moore (2013) and Charlie Morton (2019) as the only Rays pitchers to start an 8-0 season. Tampa Bay improved to a 23-5 record at home.

Luke Raley and Jose Siri hit home runs close for the Rays (36-15), the top team in Major League Baseball and the team that has hit the most homers with 97.

First baseman Raley pitched 1 2/3 innings Tuesday in a 20-1 loss to Toronto, helping seven runs, including a grand slam by Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Raley and Siri had solo homers in the second off Yusei Kikuchi (5-2) to give the Rays a 3-0 lead. Isaac Paredes of Mexico contributed an RBI single in the first inning.

For the Blue Jays, the Dominican Guerrero 3-1 with an RBI. The Mexican Alejandro Kirk from 2-0.
