Sinner Makes History with Undefeated ATP Finals Group Stage Run

Jannik Sinner concluded the group stage of the ATP Finals with an undefeated record, advancing to the semifinals alongside Felix Auger-Aliassime, who clinched the final spot after an upset victory.

The Italian player defeated American Ben Shelton 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) in one hour and 35 minutes on Thursday in Turin, Italy. This victory ensured Sinner swept all his matches in the Björn Borg group.

Sinner became the first player in the competition’s history to complete the group stage without losing a single set in two consecutive editions. He had already secured his qualification prior to the match.

In the same group, Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime overcame Germany’s Alexander Zverev 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) in a match lasting two hours and eight minutes. Zverev had been widely considered the favorite for this encounter.

Sinner is set to face Australian Alex De Minaur in the semifinals. Sinner holds a perfect 12-0 head-to-head record against De Minaur.

Auger-Aliassime will next play Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz. Alcaraz secured victory in the Jimmy Connors group.

Alcaraz famously ended the 2022 calendar year as the world’s number one ranked player.
