SINC Contributor Jesús Méndez, Prismas Award 2022 for the best journalistic article

The award for best journalistic report at the Prismas 2022 awards went to Jesus MendezSINC collaborator for Story of a genetic kidnapping: this is how a fly stole it “superpowers” to a plant’. He was awarded “for transforming a little-known and basic scientific investigation into a compelling story of high journalistic quality”, according to the members of the jury.

Prisms are an initiative of the Scientific Museums of A Coruña (A Coruña City Council) to reward the dissemination of scientific culture, and also to support professionals working in this area.

With that, there are now four distinctions that SINC received in the most prestigious event in its area. In 2014, the agency received the Prismas Casa de las Ciencias award for best popular science website, “for being a well-implemented site and serving content in a very professional manner aimed at both journalists and the general public”, according to the jury. In addition, that same year the SINC report Dalí’s obsession with a muse called science, by Laura Chaparro, received special mention in the category of journalistic articles. In 2016, Jesús Méndez himself received the award for How anesthesia works remains a mystery.

The Prismas are an initiative of the Scientific Museums of A Coruña to reward the dissemination of scientific culture, and also to support professionals working in this area.

The best video work went to Path to Congress, an IAA-CSIC webseries. In the new media category, he was awarded Yonki books, by Oihan Iturbide. Likewise, Angela Bernardo Alvarez Won the award for best book published by bullying (Publishers to the side).

In the radio category, the winners were Maria Teresa Perez Cidoncha and Xaviera Torres Joergesfor the podcast La lupa sónica and science gifts, Promoted by the Polytechnic University of Valencia, it received the award for the best single project.

Finally, the Jury’s Special Prism was Enrique Pérez Monteroresearcher at the IAA-CSIC.
